Overview

The Shopify integration connects your Shopify store directly to Relio, enabling automatic product sync and advanced e-commerce features that aren't available with other import methods.

What It Does

  • One-click install: Install the Relio app directly from the setup wizard or the Shopify App Store
  • Automatic product sync: All products imported and kept in sync automatically
  • Real-time stock updates: Prices and availability always current
  • Vendor mapping: Shopify product vendors automatically mapped to manufacturers for Owner Bias
  • Theme App Extension: The chat widget is delivered as a native Shopify app embed block — no manual code injection needed

Exclusive Features

These features are only available with Shopify (and WooCommerce):

Real Order Lookup Visitors can ask about their order status, and the chatbot checks the real order via Shopify API. Shows a visual Order Tracker card with status stages (Placed → Processing → Shipped → Delivered)
Add to Cart Products can be added directly to the Shopify cart from the chat widget using the variant ID
Order Cancellation Handle cancellation requests with retention offers
Auto Coupon Creation Chatbot creates real discount codes in your Shopify store

Setup

  1. Choose "Shopify" during the setup wizard (or install from the Shopify App Store)
  2. Click "Install on Shopify" → you are redirected to Shopify OAuth
  3. Approve the app permissions (read products and orders)
  4. Products sync automatically
  5. Enable the widget in your theme editor (see next section)

Note: Your Shopify app must have Protected Customer Data Access configured in the Shopify Partner Dashboard for order lookup to work. This is granted automatically for development stores.

Enable the Widget

After installing the app, you need to enable the Relio AI Chat Assistant in your Shopify theme editor:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes
  2. Click Customize on your active theme
  3. In the theme editor, click App Embeds (the puzzle piece icon in the left sidebar)
  4. Find "Relio AI Chat Assistant" and toggle it ON
  5. Click Save

The widget automatically loads your site key from a shop metafield that was set during installation. No configuration needed — just toggle it on.

Tip: You can also disable the widget at any time by toggling it off in App Embeds, or from the Relio dashboard under Chatbot → Design & Tone.

How It Works

The Relio widget is delivered as a Shopify Theme App Extension (app embed block). This is the recommended approach by Shopify because:

  • No theme code changes: The widget is injected via Shopify's native extension system
  • Zero-config: The site key is stored as a shop metafield and read automatically by the Liquid template
  • Merchant control: The merchant can enable/disable it from the theme editor at any time
  • Theme-safe: Uninstalling the app automatically removes the widget — no leftover code

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Widget not showing Make sure you enabled the app embed in Online Store → Themes → Customize → App Embeds
Widget shows on wrong store Each Shopify store gets its own site key during installation. Re-install the app if you connected multiple stores
Password-protected store The widget will not appear on password-protected Shopify storefronts. Remove the store password to see and test it
"Add to Cart" not working Go to the Products page in Relio and click Refresh Products to update variant IDs
