Cart Intelligence

Features Updated May 20, 2026

Overview

Cart Intelligence allows the AI to detect what visitors have in their cart and proactively engage them with relevant help, product tips, and complementary suggestions. Instead of waiting for the visitor to ask a question, the chatbot opens the conversation automatically based on cart activity.

When a visitor adds a product to their cart and stays idle for a configurable period, the chatbot pops up with a contextual message. This can range from a cross-sell recommendation to a free shipping nudge or a returning visitor greeting.

Cart Intelligence turns your AI assistant from a reactive question-answerer into a proactive sales helper.

How It Works

The widget periodically checks the visitor's cart contents via your store's native cart API:

  1. Cart polling: The widget reads the cart every few seconds to detect new items, removed items, and total value changes
  2. Trigger evaluation: When a trigger condition is met (e.g., idle cart, return visitor), the widget queues a proactive message
  3. Delay enforcement: The chatbot waits for the configured minimum delay before opening the popup, so it does not feel intrusive
  4. AI context injection: The cart contents (product names, quantities, total value) are injected into the AI conversation context so the chatbot can reference specific items the visitor has
  5. One-shot per session: Each trigger fires at most once per visitor session to avoid annoyance

The AI knows exactly what the visitor has in their cart, so its messages are specific and helpful rather than generic.

Trigger Types

Cart Intelligence includes several automatic triggers that activate when the feature is enabled:

Trigger What Happens Example AI Message
Idle Cart Visitor added items but has not interacted for a while "I noticed you have [Product] in your cart. Would you like to know about sizing or shipping?"
Return Visitor Visitor comes back with items still in their cart from a previous session "Welcome back! Your cart with [Product] is still here. Ready to complete your order?"
Post-Add Cross-Sell Visitor just added a product to their cart "Great choice! Many customers who bought [Product] also loved [Related Product]."
Free Shipping Threshold Cart total is close to the free shipping minimum "You are only [Amount] away from free shipping! Want me to suggest something to get you there?"

All triggers fire automatically based on cart state. You do not need to configure individual triggers. Enabling Cart Intelligence activates all of them.

Configuration Settings

When Cart Intelligence is enabled, three settings are available:

Minimum Wait Before Popup (seconds)

The minimum number of seconds the visitor must be idle before the cart trigger popup appears. This prevents the chatbot from feeling intrusive by popping up immediately after a visitor adds something to their cart.

  • Default: 30 seconds
  • Range: 30 to 300 seconds (5 minutes)
  • Recommendation: Start with 60 seconds. Lower values feel aggressive, higher values may miss the engagement window.

Minimum Cart Value

The minimum total cart value required before Cart Intelligence triggers will fire. Set this to avoid triggering on very small or test carts.

  • Default: 0 (triggers for any cart value)
  • Use case: Set to your average order value to focus on serious shoppers

Free Shipping Threshold

The cart total at which your store offers free shipping. When set, the AI will proactively tell visitors how much more they need to add to qualify for free shipping.

  • Default: 0 (disabled)
  • Example: Set to 150.00 if your store offers free shipping over $150

Exit Intent Trigger

When enabled, Cart Intelligence detects when a desktop visitor is about to leave the page (mouse moves toward the browser's close/navigation area) and triggers a proactive message.

This is a last-chance engagement that can recover abandoned carts by presenting a compelling reason to stay, such as a discount offer, free shipping reminder, or product recommendation.

Note: Exit Intent only works on desktop browsers. Mobile devices do not support mouse-based intent detection.

Cart Coupon Trigger

If you have the Coupon Creation feature enabled alongside Cart Intelligence, you can activate the Cart Coupon Trigger. When enabled, the AI offers a discount coupon after the visitor completes the lead capture form in the chat.

This creates a conversion loop:

  1. Visitor has items in cart
  2. Cart Intelligence opens the chat
  3. AI engages the visitor and collects their information (lead capture)
  4. After the form is submitted, the AI offers a coupon code as a thank-you
  5. Visitor applies the coupon and completes the purchase

Requirement: The Coupon feature must be enabled in your Features settings for this trigger to appear. If coupons are disabled, you will see a note explaining how to unlock it.

How to Enable

  1. Go to Chatbot > Features
  2. Scroll down to the Cart Intelligence toggle
  3. Enable the toggle
  4. Configure the three settings (delay, minimum value, free shipping threshold)
  5. Optionally enable Exit Intent Trigger and Cart Coupon Trigger
  6. Click Save

The feature activates immediately for all new visitor sessions after saving.

Compatibility

Cart Intelligence requires a native store integration to access the cart API in real time.

Requirement Details
Import method Shopify, WooCommerce, or PrestaShop only
Plan Advanced plan and above
Not available for Scraper, Feed, or CSV imports (the widget cannot access the cart without a native integration)

For non-compatible import methods, the Cart Intelligence section appears in Features but is visually locked with a message explaining the requirement. This ensures merchants can see the feature and understand what they would gain by connecting a supported platform.

Best Practices

  • Start with a 60-second delay to give visitors time to browse naturally before engaging them
  • Set a realistic free shipping threshold based on your actual shipping policy
  • Enable Cart Coupon Trigger if you run frequent promotions; it significantly boosts conversions
  • Monitor your Inbox for leads generated through cart triggers to understand which products drive the most engagement
  • Do not set the delay too low (under 30 seconds); visitors may perceive the popup as spam
  • Review the Conversations page to see how the AI is engaging cart-triggered visitors and refine your product descriptions if the AI is not referencing the right details
